A New Notebook Won’t Fix You
(But Let’s Pretend It Will)
Look, we need to talk about the lies we tell ourselves.
“I’ll start meal prepping on Monday.”
“I’ll finally stick to that morning routine.”
“This is the year I get my life together.”
And my personal favorite: “A new notebook will fix me.”
You know exactly what I’m talking about. That intoxicating moment when you’re standing in the stationery aisle (or scrolling Amazon at 11 PM) and you see it—the one. The notebook with the perfect cover, the ideal page layout, the binding that promises it will lay flat while you manifest your best life.
Suddenly, everything clicks. This is what’s been missing. Not therapy. Not better sleep. Not actually doing the things on your to-do list. You just needed the right notebook.
So you buy it. You crack open that first page. The paper quality is chef’s kiss. You write “Goals” at the top in your neatest handwriting. You’re basically a new person already.
Fast forward two weeks: the notebook has three pages filled out and is buried under a stack of mail, while you’re back on Amazon looking at the next notebook that will definitely be the one that changes everything.
Here’s the truth bomb: a new notebook will not fix you.
But here’s the fun part: it might help anyway.
Because here’s what that shiny new notebook actually does. It gives you a spark, and you never know which spark is going to be the one to actually start the fire.
So here is a round up of my favorite “fire-starters” including the ones that unstuck me when I didn’t know where to go next.
